RED WING — The Mass of the Resurrection for Virgil J. Sahli will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing, with the Rev. Thomas M. Kommers officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery, Red Wing.

Mr. Sahli, 78, died Saturday (Jan. 12, 2008) at Fairview Red Wing Medical Center.

Virgil Joseph Sahli was born Jan. 22, 1929, in Hague, N.D., and attended St. Francis Academy in Hankinson, N.D. From 1950 to 1953, he served in the Army during the Korean War. He married Rita McNamara on June 25, 1955, in Minneapolis. They lived in Bloomington, Minn., where Mr. Sahli worked for Harmon Glass, prior to moving to Red Wing. He owned Red Wing Glass until retiring in 1995.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, Patrick (Cyd) of Plymouth, Minn., Ronald (Jayne) of Alexandria, Minn., Donald (Joyce) of Red Wing, James (Lisa) of Eagan, Minn., and John (Debbie) of Goodhue; and a daughter, Mary (Marty) Kelly of Red Wing; 18 grandchildren; three brothers, Jerome (Lucille) of North Dakota, Ervin (Norma) of Fridley, Minn., and Roger (Ginny) of Waubun, Minn.; and three sisters, Virginia Hartley of Maple Grove, Minn., Dolly (Pete) Schmitz of Savage, Minn., and Linda (Leo) Elkie of St. Michael, Minn.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing, and an hour before the service Thursday at the church. There will be an American Legion prayer service at 7 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a parish prayer service, at the funeral home.

Memorials are preferred to St. Joseph’s School or the Red Wing Hockey Association.
